Does a 1965 evinrude outboard engine have a tell tale hole for the water coolant?

  1. No.

    You can tell if the unit is pumping water by looking at the exhaust port above the water line at the rear of the engine. You should see water spraying out along with the fumes.

    Most larger evinrudes had this... hard to say about yours without a size or model number.
