  1. What's a turtle's bite???

  2. Yes.  It can result in the need for stitches.  The turtle's mouth is a 'searing tool' designed for biting through small fish scales, and aquatic plants.

It grasps the food item FIRMLY in powerful jaws, and then tears at the remaining mass with its front feet/claws until a 'swallowable size' is obtained/torn loose for swallowing.

If you are asking if a pet turtle will do this?  With proper care and nutritional needs met, the answer is no.

But, a 2-3 yr. old child (OR an adult) should never wriggle a finger in the tank water.  Accidents do happen, and turtles are curious.  The tiny finger COULD be mistaken for a meal.

If this question concerns a water turtle as a pet for a child, or if you are concerned as a potential owner - I recommend googling the turtle, and educatig yourself.

Salmonella is a factor too, and should be googled.  Never allow children around a water turtle unsupervised, and make sure their hands are well washed before and after handling.

Turtles make excellent pets.  Most mistakes and injuries are entirely the owner's fault.

I hope this has been of help.
