  1. The amount of force is close to the same, the rifle will always kick faster and sharper than a shotgun.  For an exact answer, check the ballistics for eaach ammunition.  Compare the muzzle energy of each.

  2. i think the 20 gauge hurts more but the 30-30 gives a little kick. the kick is smooth and easy

  3. Their about the same ,if you can handle the 20 gauge you should be able to handle the 30.

  4. no the 20 gauge shotgun with 7/8 oz shot has about 18 foot lbs of recoil a 30 WCF has around eleven the translation when you pull the trigger on the 20 it goes BOOM and SHOVES you with noticable recoil

when you squezze the 30/30 it go POP and NUDGES you in a plesent way

you will be fine shooting a 30/30 just squezze and enjoy shooting recoil shouldn't be a big facator to think about

  5. Q:  does a 30/30 rifle have more kick then a 20 gauge shotgun using target loads?

A:  Even the lightest 20 gauge shell produces more recoil than the lightest .30-30 rounds.  According to Chuck Hawk's recoil table the lightest 20 gauge has a recoil impulse of:  16.1 lbs.  The lightest recoiling .30-30:  10.6 lbs.

  6. no, the 30-30 will kick less.

  7. No,If you're not shooting 220 grain slugs in the 30-30.Remember to hold it tight into your shoulder.

  8. A 20 gauge will make my shoulder black and blue after a dozen shots. Not a 30/30.

  9. I would say they are very similar. Depends a little on the gun, ammo and what you have on to take the kick. Make sure both have the recoil butt pads and you wear something with some padding or wear a shooting vest.

Practice will make this question not very important. And a suggestion, do not get a single shot shotgun- they kick!
