A learner permit, not a full license. This is Texas. Please don't say to check with the DMV or DPS. I already know to do that.

  1. I got my TX motorcycle permit and then license just under a year ago and I'm 40. If you only want the permit, just go to the DMV and take the written test. Studying the handbook on line for a couple of hours will cover any questions asked. You can actually skip this step, though, if you plan on taking the MSF course, as you can take the same written exam and get your full license upon completing the course. I got my permit before taking the course and all it did was allow me to take the written (computer screen) early... that is, when I DID go to get my license, all I had to do was show my certificate of MSF completion and pay the fee... voila. Happy riding!

  2. i would think it would be similar to getting your car learners. All i had to do was go in and do a written test.

  3. to get a learner's permit you need only to go to the dmv and take the written test (the only difference btwn permit and license is that with a permit you can not ride 2 up) and you do not have to take a course to get your license (at least not in nc) but i would recommend an msf course as what they teach you in those classes in the equivalent of riding on your own for 2 years, plus you can sometimes get a better rate from your insurance company upon successful completion of the course, also if you do pass the course when you go to get your license you shouldn't have to take the dmv riding test. good luck - and please - do look into an msf course, you won't regret it!

  4. yes you have to take a written test then you will get a permit then you return to take a road test to get your motorcycle endorsement.
