hi, i recently bought a sony dcr-hc52 camcorder that did not come with any cables to upload videos to the computer with. i did some research and it seems that i need a IEEE-1394 4pin to 6pin cable to upload my videos from the camcorder to the pc, but my computer does not have a firewire card for the 6pin to connect in. the camcorder has a 4pin slot and so does my pc therefore my question is..can i just buy a 4pin to 4pin cable and will that work the same way as a 4pin to 6pin for uploading videos?

  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

  2. Connect it by any of two.

At my studio i connect it to different pcs as I have both cables. .No difference at all it is just modified for compactness

  3. Yes - of course it works the same way.   Why would it work any differently?  Apparently you did not do enough research.

Unless you had Sony remanufacture your camcorder with some special feature that no one else has, you should be able to use any 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cord in any length from any manufacturer without any problems.

  4. By what you're saying, this should be fine. Some computers (like mine) have a 6 pin firewire port, and my camcorder is also a 4 pin (I need a 4 pin to 6 pin cable). Since your computer is a 4 pin, the 4 pin-4 pin firewire cable should work.
