  1. If your question regards the amount of alcohol, the others are spot on.

    If, however, you are asking if you can substitute 40-proof vodka for a recipe that calls for 100 proof, it doesn't work that way because of the volume you would be adding.

    On the other hand, it's not rocket science. Try it and see if you like the flavor. Play with it until you do... or you pass out, which --I don't know-- may have been your goal all along.


  2. No.  1 oz. of 100 proof vodka would have 1/2 oz of pure  alcohol, the 5 oz glass of 40 proof would equal 1 oz of pure alcohol.  The 5 oz glass would be more.

    5 oz of 40 proof = 5 oz @ 20% alcohol = 1 0z of alcohol.

    1 oz of 100 proof = 1 oz @ 50% alcohol = 1/2 oz of alcohol.
