  1. No.

No Bachelors degree allows you to teach. (I have a BS in microbiology - and that is not sufficient to teach)

To teach you need a separate credential - which is a separate 2 year program that supplies methods and curriculum courses as well as student teaching. There are multiple tests that need to be passed as well.

(also - the above answer is incorrect - there is no BS in education - and it would not allow you to teach if there were)

  2. No, it doesn't mean you can teach.  A Masters doesn't mean you can teach.  A Ph.D doesn't mean you can teach.  Especially with K-12, you also have to have a teaching certificate specific to your state to teach on top of the B.A. requirement.

  3. There most certainly IS a BS of Education. I have one and have been teaching for 15 years. It is not, however, the only way to become a teacher. Anyone with a BS can obtain a license (requirements are different in each state) to teach in the subject area their degree is in. (For example, with a BS in English + a teaching license you would be qualified to teach MIddle or High School English.)Most of the time a license takes about 2 years to obtain, but many states have fast-tracked the licensing process and it can take a lot shorter than that. Call your state's department of education to find out what the requirements are.

  4. Only if you get a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.  Then you specialize such as a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education or Special Education.

Each state has its own teacher certification qualifications, so if she is interested in a degree in education, she should find a school that will allow her to be certified to teach in the states she wants to teach in.

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education -- so does my husband.  To clarify -- you don't get a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, it has to be more specific -- such as "in Elementary Education" or "in Special Education" or "in Secondary Education".  For the secondary education one, you also need to specialize in a subject area such as Science or Math, etc.

  5. First and foremost, they are several ways to getting your teaching license. First you need to find out the requirements from your state. Second you need to pass the Praxis state exam and you need to take the required classes from your university and do a student teaching internship
