I'm referring to a Continental Airlines airplane. I just image googled it and it shows mostly jet engines. However one pic(1st page) shows a high wing with props. Thanks.

  1. Nope, it has turbo fan jet engines on it.

  2. No, CRJ stands for Canadian Regional JET.

  3. No, it is a small twin engine jet aircraft. The picture you are looking at might be a Bombardier Q400. Continental recently announced they would be buying this aircraft to operate out of Newark Liberty Airport because it has 84 seats compared to the RJ's 50 seats. This means fewer aircraft will be needed to transport the same number of people, cutting down on congestion in New York airspace.

  4. It has one, attached to the emergency deployable RAT (Ram Air Turbine), essentially a windmill that would deploy from a compartment on the right side of the aircraft nose, to provide electrical power for the systems if the engines were to fail.

A high wing aircraft with props is most likely a Dash8 (later renamed Q's) from the deHavilland company (which was bought and amalgamated with the Canadair company--along with Short Brothers and LearJet to form Bombardier Aerospace). The nose of the Dash8 is not totally dissimilar from that of the Challenger business aircraft (and therefore to the various CRJ's) but when those aircraft were designed, they were not part of the same company so the resemblance is coincidental.

Since Continental also operates Q400, this is the most likely explanation.

  5. no

  6. no crj200 are jet engined aircraft but the one you are talking about is either the raytheon beach 1900 d or the bombardier dash 8-q200
