  1. No, Just a drivers license

  2. Yes, it's a must need and just in case type of thing. Always have yourself covered.

  3. Yes, because you'll be flying at some point.

  4. i don't think so because my family is Canadian and i have heard of passports coming soon for Americans to.

  5. No.  To cross the border to the USA by car all you need is a valid gov't issue id (eg. driver's licence and proof of citizenship).  As Seattle/California is a domestic flight, you wouldn't need to show a passport to board the flight.  Get yourself a passport though, as it's the most convenient form of id when crossing the border in either direction.  It's also going to be a requirement regardless of method of travel come next June.

  6. You only need a birth cert and a license to drive over, but you'll need the passport to fly. If you're coming over through BC, I highly recommend using the Pacific Highway crossing over the Peace Arch, it's faster.

  7. I live on the Windsor, Ontario - Detroit, Michigan border and cross the border all the time.

The posters are right who say that since you are entering the States by LAND, all that is required is

    (1) valid government issued photo ID, such as your driver's licence, and

    (2) your original birth certificate.

The passport stipulation is not mandatory until June, 2009.

If you were flying from a city in Canada to Seattle, then the passport would be required.  The flight from Seattle to California is a U.S. domestic flight and therefore a passport is not required.

The requirement for a passport is determined by the method of your initial entry into the States, which in your case is by land.

  8. Yes, you need to have a valid passport.  Or else you won't be allowed to board the airplane, even if you manage to cross the border.

  9. Technically the requirements for a passport relate to travel into and out of the US so, in theory, you do not require a passport to fly within the US to my knowledge.  To cross the border you will require a valid government issued photo ID such and a Driver's License and an official Birth Certificate.  If you are 18 or younger only a Birth Certificate is required however if you have photo ID bring it.

To fly within the US you will require at least similar ID however note that airlines can impose their own rules and can require a passport to fly.  The best suggestion is to contact the airline you are flying with in the states and get the ID requirements from them.  This information should be available on their website or by contacting their customer service department.

If you have a passport bring it as it will solve all of the possible problems.
