  1. Hello Dear

No you don't need a Lawyer for a student visa, even though if you are confused about what you are doing it wont hurt to have one.Usually having a good immigration lawyer will help you understand things better and will help you not make mistakes that may delay your application but if you're sure of the the procedure no lawyer is necessary.

What determines if you get one or not is proving that you have strong ties to Colombia in your case since you're only 17 years old you basically proving your parents have strong ties. How you prove strong ties to Colombia?

    With a Good Job

Properties such as a Home and car

Bank accounts that have been open for several years

If you have traveled abroad before and came back

Plus you must demonstrate that you can afford to study in the USA.By either your parents having sufficient funds to cover your tuition or room & board at the University or proving that you have a scholarship who will pay your school fees.

and yes if you summit all the required paperwork you will be able to get your visa before sept 14..that is only if you apply for it now.FYI you could enter the USA 30 days before your study start to get ready for everything

    Best of Luck!
