Does a DJ also need to be an MC?

in other words, do i have to be an announcer and/or host? for example... a wedding party

Not really. DJ is more like the 2nd person who doesn't speak much.

No, but it helps to be versatile. In Hip-Hop specifically, the DJ used to hire the MC to "move the crowd", and give props to him, while the DJ spun the records. In terms of a "wedding" it helps if you can play the records and keep the crowd entertained, so you don't have to pay some MC or have to split the cash.
