  1. That person is a member of the British Empire.  Knighthood in when the Queen touches the  person on each shoulder with a ceremonial sword. The  othermajor award is the Order of the British Empire(OBE) or some call it Other  Buggers Efforts. A  male knight is  a "sir." But a female is a Dame.
