  1. I had one, the needle is quite large. The pain was about a 7/10. 1 being nothing, 10 being eaten alive.

  2. It really does not hurt, the anticipation of pain can sometimes be worse than the actual pain

Now about your mom! Just because your brother has a sore throat really isn't an indication of TB! Most sore throats are viral. We get up to 7 virus's a year, it is likely just that, see your Dr if your concerned.

  3. you are probably about to have a needless test done.  your mom shouldn't be insisting on tests, the doctors should make that decision based on the patients signs and symptoms.

the mantoux test is a small needle and it gets inserted just under the skin.  a small amount of fluid is injected and you can watch a little bubble form under your skin, that's how not deep its it.

anyways, it hurts just a little, but it is a very small needle and it doesn't hit the muscle so the pain is only on insertion, like someone pinched you, and there is no pain afterwards.

  4. The needle is small compared to that used in a venipuncture.  The injection however is into the skin and not through the skin.  It is uncomfortable and about the equivalent of a sharp pinprick.

  5. The mantoux test is a bunch of little needles poked into the outer layer of the skin all at once. It hurts only a little and is over very fast. I would say it hurts about as much as getting your finger pricked to get a drop of blood.
