  1. Some do.  Sort of.

    Modern microwave ovens have microprocessors.  As such, they have software on them.  Technically, these aren't operating systems.  They are mission-specific firmware.

    There are some mixed-purpose devices (mostly concept pieces) that combine a computer (complete with an OS like Linux or even Windows) with a microwave.  This particular combination is rare, given that microwaves and computers don't get along.

  3. It may have a microcontroller but there would be little point in having more than one thread in such a simple application. They really don't have much processing to do.
