Does a Paranormal Psychologist work in Private Practice or out of a Clinic?

And how do they do their billing? Do they need a Phd. in Paranormal, or just a Master's with some clinical work. Is there a book kind of like the DSM, only for ghostly matters?

  1. They probably do their 'work' out of their parents' basement, since its a bunch of fake mumbo jumbo.

Hint: The Ghost Hunter show is not real.

  2. Yes. Harvard regularly publishes a paranormal edition of the DSM, complete with in-depth research into things that go bump in the night.

  3. A psychologist needs a minimum of a master's degree in order to set up a practice as a therapist, and a Ph.D. is preferred.

There are a few schools that have departments of paranormal studies, but they're turning out a lot of junk science with non-verifiable and non-repeatable test results. And there's no such field as a "paranormal psychologist," nor is there any sort of license for it or professional organization or certification agency.  If a degreed and licensed psychologist wishes to advertise himself as a "paranormal" psychologist, he only has to check his state laws to see if that's allowed.  Then once he's in business accepting patients, he only needs to hope that the families of his patients don't recognize him for the fraud he's perpetrating in taking their money to "cure" something that doesn't exist.

  4. they fly through the ether dispensing ectoplasm and madame ouspenskaya in generous dollops. billing is not a problem as they know the lotto numbers and are therefore very wealthy but dispense with wealth just like this: Fa-La! because material wealth means nothing to their funky psychic selves

  5. I bet the American Psych. Society wouldn't mind getting everything ghostly into the DSM if they somehow could word it right.  Then it would all have a billing number, and they and the HMO's could go wild with delight!   How about "Spectral Infestation Dysmorphic Disorder"?

  6. Any psychologist needs to have a Ph.d to be considered a psychologist, if not, they can get sued rather easily. But answer your broader question, there is no such thing as a 'Paranormal Psychologist". There are Parapsychologists, but very few universities offer degrees in this field, the APA obviously does not take the paranormal very seriously, and with good cause most of the time. And, you can not obtain a Ph.D in the paranormal, it would be impossible to obtain a degree in something which may not exist.

  7. Now That's funny!  The basement answer is funny too.  I think these days they work totally over the internet.  Some of them are right here on Yahoo Answers, believe it or not.  Of course, they are 14, but "I've always known things, u kno?"  lol.  If there was a book, what would the diagnoses be, I wonder?
