Does a Region 1 DVD work on a Scottish PC?

Im wanting to purchase a dvd online, but its Region 1... so i understand this only works on American dvd players and wouldnt work on a Scottish dvd player, but would it work on my pc? or is that just exactly the same?

a dvd disc region 1  will play on your computer.

use your computer, and log on to dvd hacks, this will ask you your make and model of your dvd player. put these details in and you should be able to make your dvd multi regional.
