I want to travel to the Bahamas but don't have a passport. It takes 8 weeks to get one. If I cross the border by car to Mexico and fly out of there do I have to have a US passport or just my birth certificate?

  1. YES! You will have to go through American customs when entering back into the U.S. There is no way out of not getting a passport. You could get a passport faster through an express deal (1 month) but it will cost more money just ask the nearest post office.

  2. Before you could of gone through with just your birth certificate ...but now NO !!!

It follows the same principles as trave by air through the USA and Canada crossing borders...

  3. Well Im a us citizen, but when I go to Mexico we get through with our birth certificate, but the last time we went they let us thorugh but said next time we need a passport, so YES u have to have a passport

  4. She is right!  You will not be allowed on an international flight from Mexico without a passport.  If you need one immediately , you can try one of those expensive private passport businesses that charge several hundred dollars and go to the regional passport office for you.  See websites below.

  5. You need passport

  6. Yes, definitely!

But it doesn't take 8 weeks to get a passport if you use an expediting service! I got mine in only 2 weeks!
