Question:

Does a U.S citizen have to have a passport in order to go on a bahamas or carrebean cruise?

my boyfriend doesnt have a passport but i do. we want to plan a cruise vacation,but dont know if it would be a waste of time since he doesnt have his passport.i heard that all you have to have is your i.d and your birth certificate.i dont know..im confused.

  11. Yes.  The Bahamas and the Caribbean are not part of the U.S.

  12. Dave D gave you a good link; however, that link states that if you are entering by SEA, you only need your birth certificate and proof of citizenship.  

    So, if you depart from and return to the US only by ship, with no air travel involved, you don't need a passport.

    The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

        * CURRENTLY:

          U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (available in spring 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
