I am a U.S. citizen living in Hawaii. Are visas required to travel to Australia? I'm planning on staying there for about a week.

  1. Yes, you must have a visa (and of course a passport) to enter Australia. You can obtain an ETA electronic visa online from http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/...

EDIT: If you land here without a visa, you will be put on a plane and sent back without leaving the airport. You MUST have your visa before you arrive.

  2. As a US citizen staying for just a week a visa will be issued at the airport upon arrival, the same process as Aussies visiting the US for a short stay.

    A passport is mandatory though

  3. The only people who can jump on a plane and come to Australia without a Visa are Kiwis (New Zealanders)

  4. No not unless you plan to stay longer.

  5. yes, you will need a visa and a passport

you can apply for a visa online

  6. Yes, as it is not a US territory.  We (Aussies) need one to visit the US.

  7. Do people need a visa to visit the US ?

If you need a visa to visit the US then reason dictates that you would need a visa to visit any other country. Australia might be allies of America but Australia is not of America.
