Does a USB Wireless Internet Card HAVE to be by the same manufacturor as the modem/router thingy?

For example, I have a HP desktop without a Wireless card, I have Hi Speed Wifi with a Motorola Modem/Router thingy. Does the USB STICK have to be Motorola? Or can it be D-Link?

Are you saying that you have a usb adapter and a motorola router?  Secondly, is your router a wireless router?  The brand of each of your components doesn't matter.  But your router must be wireless for you to get a signal from it to you HP computer.
