  1. Yes and no  depends on the engine.  but generally the smaller engine will get better economy (v6)  This ceases to be true when the the v6 is too small for the vehicle with out the higher torque of the larger engine it has to work harder or down shift,to accomplish the same purpose.  If the vehicle is being purchased new the dealer should provide you with MPG estimates for both engine combos.

  2. very true however V8 sound so cool especially the HEMI however if you are more in need of good fuel economy, and performance choose the V6, but if you want power or need to tow alot choose the V8. however some V8 can turn off half of their cylinders to use less fuel but thats only aviliable on the dodge and Chevy trucks and suv's and the only reason why we have such good deals is because of the high gas prices and dealers are trying to get rid of them.

  3. it uses more gas thats true.... but makes up for it in power and usually get good highway miles.........

  4. Not really, if you compare a small v8 engine to a big v6 that could be the same mpg or even less than v6 cause your v8 engine got more high tech. solution such as fuel injection.... it could turn off 4 cylinders and just run only 4 cylinders if cruising on highway and doesn't need power to pass and or v6 engine with 4x4 and the v8 is just for the 2 wheel drive only.

Can't tell, unless you must research by look closely to the manufacture of engines mile per gallon manual book declared.

  5. I hate to break the news to your husband and some of the other folks out there....but not all V6's out there get better mileage than some V8's. If you load up that V6 and are pulling a trailer...your mileage will suck....as the one with the V8 will get several miles farther per gallon.

Now if it's just everyday city driving...the V8 will get worse mileage. You need to figure out what you will be doing the most of...driving fully loaded or just you.

  6. I hate to go against common logic,  but  there is more to the issue then just the number  of cylinders.

If you have a V-6 in a heavy car, then you have to keep pouring more  fuel into the engine to get it going and keeping it up to speed. While a V-8 can move just as fast with less fuel to the engine.

But there is also the point at which a V-8 is not needed because the vehicle will  operate up to expectations with a V-6 (or even a I-4).

It is more in how much  the SUV weighs then how big the engine is.

Driven smart, I have met those that get 27 MPG out of a V-8, which is better then the 19 I am getting out of my V-6 in an SUV.

So check out the curb weight, and buy the lighter of your choices!

  7. v8 uses more gas, because of mechanical innefficiency associated with heat.  You have 2 more cylinders working in the engine.  I do believe however the extra cylinders can be more efficient when cruising at higher speeds (above 75 miles per hour).  And the extra cylinders provide a speed boost which could be consider a safety precaution (cannot put a price on getting the h**l out of their when a truck is about to blind side you.)

    My .02 cents

  8. yes, if you think about it there will be 8 cylinders that need gas instead of 6 so when you have to rev it up the gas usage will dramatically increase

  9. ok for most normal v-8 yes it does use more gas it has 8 cylinders. for a v-6 it will be cheaper on gas and get better mileage. if u want a suv go wit the new hybrid Tahoe. wit my v-8 o get 11-12 in town and like 15-16 on the highway

  10. yes completely true. unless it's one of them hybrid v8 suvs, if they exist haha...

but yeah typically a v8 will use more gas because it has more cylinders
