  1. First of all, a ac drain should not go to a sink drain. An AC drain should just drain outside.

It should have it's own trap. Just a U in a plastic pipe is ok.

  2. gas furnace no p-trap air handler negative flow that means evap coil under or behind the blower p-trap and yes ac drains run to a bath sink the problem ussually is the tail pc to the sink drain is too long and covers the ac drain stans clueless

  3. You really should route the drain where it belongs-outside.

If you don't want to do it right, you should be OK without the trap. In this case, the trap serves no purpose. If it were outdoors, the trap  is necessary. The odor, I believe, has nothing to do with the removal of the trap, since the water coming from the AC is clean condensate water.

I would check other drains in the area and if they have not been used in awhile, pour some water down them to fill the traps. Dry drains let sewer gas in the house.
