  1. In fact, professional boxers do not attend the Olympic games.

  2. Not at all.  Figure there are thousands of professional boxers out there and the Olympics come around only once every 4 years.  Some popular and rich fighters did have an Olympic pedigree (Ali, Foreman, Frazier, De la Hoya, Leonard, The Spinks Brothers, Hoyfield, Bowe, etc)  But a lot of great fighters had no Olympic background and still did pretty well as professionals.

Now with the horrible Olympic scoring and higher occurance of dreadfully boring Olympic fights, a lot of US fighters are ignoring the games and looking to start their professional careers earlier.

    Here is a perfect example:

Kelly Pavlik, Bernard Hopkins, Mike Tyson are just some of the big-name American fighters that didn't have an Olympic pedigree.

Andre Ward won the gold in 2004.  In 2000, Rocky Juarez and Ricardo Williams both took home the silver.  How many people know about them as opposed to the 3 I just listed above???

  3. no but its the best way

    gets u known

    amir khan

  4. No.  In fact, most do not.  They eventually cross over to small time professional.

  5. No, they don't have to, although it would probably help their cause.  Sugar Ray Leonard won gold at the 1976 Olympics and made thousands of dollars for his first fight and he had it televised on national television.  He then went on to win millions of dollars in all-time great matches, and I think that him winning the gold medal had a lot to do with it.  Guys like Marvin Hagler on the other hand were given peanuts for his first fight and did not get the really good money until much later in his career.  That being said, there are plenty of boxers who "made it big" financially without partaking in the olympics, although I would have to say that going to the olympic games and winning a medal would get you a head start over most in terms of having a successful career.
