  1. Sounds like the lockup torque converter is not disengaging. you're not going to be able to fix it yourself no matter what it is so better get to an honest competent shop.

  2. actually your tranny has many internal clutches that cant be replaced without a rebuild. your car is in fail safe mode so it is taking off in 3rd gear unless you go to manual 2nd. Manual 1st doesnt do anything right? when at highway speeds you are at a higher RPM right?

no 1st or 4th is fail safe also called limp mode or limp in. this is the tranny trying to keep from destroying itself. im sure you also have a check engine light on too huh? take it somewhere to get the codes read and begin your repairs from there which may end up as a rebuild or a bad solenoid or wiring or ECM ........

  3. sounds like the filter in the transmition

  4. yes it has clutches....in an automatic transmission, the clutches for each gear are inside the transmission. they are round with different teeth for different gears. you need to take your car to a transmission shop soon because the longer you wait the worse it will get and if you wait too long you could wreck the whole trans. right now it just sounds like you need to rebuild it. alot cheaper to rebuild than replace.

  5. if it is automatic, the clutches are inside the transmission.

  6. There are multiple clutches in an automatics tranny.
