All mommy's out there, give me some of your experiences please. Is it normal for a baby to loose a bit of weight once they start walking? Mine has lost about 5 lbs.

She's 14 months and is also still teething. thanks!

  1. HALLO DEAR MY BIG FRIEND ROSIE!I'M NOT AN MATHER,BUT I THINK THAT IT'S ALL NORMAL,DON'T WORRY..........!MUCH KISS TO YOU AND AT ALL YOUR FAMILY!"CIAO"!CINZIA.

  2. mine would be all skin and bones if he lost 5 pounds. I think it is more likely that she is too "busy" to eat, and she is burning more calories since she is on the move. None of mine actually LOST weight when they started walking, they just seemed to thin out because you are seeing them on thier feet and thier bodies are changing.

5 pounds is a lot for a small child...I would talk to the doctor about how to help her gain it back

  3. The weight loss would concern me if your child was underweight but being more active and having a sore mouth would make anyone lose weight. Just make sure she is eating well and keep an eye on her weight, if she loses any more call her dr.

  4. it isnt normal for your toddler to be losing weight. maintaining the same weight maybe but your pediatrician needs to know this info, there sounds like something else is goin on.  My son is two and started runnin around like a maniac and lost about 5 oz between appts and my ped. was concerned and made me come back to make sure he started to gain again. You need to check the scale and make sure it was that much, babies arent like us, mere ounces affect them and that is a scary amount of weight for a baby to lose.  Good luck and God bless

  5. Hi, losing 5lbs for a toddler is NOT a bit of weight, that would be a cause for concern big time, it is NOT how ever unusual for you to think that you 14 month old might have lost some weight because he/she might look like they did lose some but actually their little body is changing shape, as far as still teething YES that is normal. I hope I have helped.

  6. mine did! he lost about 3lbs...once they get on the move they never stop!!! lol

  7. when they start there little legs start to lose some of the baby fat and tone there legs to walk. they do burn a lot of calorie exploring.

My son lost a lot but he was big and tall, my daughter is small and petite if she had lost a lot, I would have been concerned. Use your instincts looking at her, is she a small or large child and is it too much or enough given her size?

  8. All three of my children lost weight once they started walking.  I even found I had to pull out clothes they'd grown out of, because all of a sudden they fit again!

    It is totally normal.  :)

Congrats on having a toddler now!
