Does a baby usually do this before labor?

I'm 38 weeks today, and for the last 2 or 3 days my baby has been pretty quite. I still feel him move, but he just is sleeping a lot more. As far as I know, I haven't lost my mucus plug, and I don't think hes dropped any. But I was just wondering if hes resting up for the big day. Could this be a sign that something is going to be happening soon? I'm so excited that hes going to be here in a few weeks or sooner :)

  1. My doc told me the movements slow down before labor, so im assuming that yes.. it's normal.

  2. Are you still feeling some movement? If you feel no movement, I would be driving my way to the hospital now. I don't think this is a sign of labour, I think its a sign that you are drawing close to the end because your baby is big and developed enough that there isn't a whole lot of room for him to move.

My daughter is moving less and less by the week as I get closer to the end as well so its normal but just make sure he is moving sometime. Drink orange juice and lie down and do kick counts.

  3. there's no hard evidence but many women report their baby going quiet in the days before labour. perhaps hormones getting ready for labour make them sleepy. as for your plug, you'll know when you lose it. congratulations.

  4. As long as you can feel him move at least 10 times in one hour, it is ok. If your not feeling that, you may want to call your doctor. I hardly felt my daughter towards the end, my doctor told me everything was fine, she was just getting ready, and (not to scare you) when I gave birth to her the umbillical cord was wrapped around her neck, which come to find out was why she wasn't really moving!

  5. I had massive problems with getting my 3 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting Paul into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!
