Does a battery-less deer feed sound like a good idea?

What would your interest level be for a product that is a deer feeder that does not depend on batteries? We are in development phases of just such a product and I would like to get the group's feedback on such a product.

Our product would use a new system of energy storage using high power capacitors that are charged by a small solar cell. The units would never need batteries (or the need to replace such batteries), and would of course be programmable for multiple feed times, etc. Not having to replace batteries means less annual cost and less headaches.

Thanks.

  1. Thats weird our usernames are almost the same lmao!!

  2. As a person who uses several battery-powered feeders, and know plenty of others who gripe about their batteries in theirs, I would be very interested in that kind of product!

  3. Sounds like a great idea.  Whether or not it will have a market will depend on the price.  It doesn't sound like it offers any advantage in terms of options of operation over a battery operated feeder.  Its main advantage will be in not needing to replace batteries.  You could probably sell it for a little over the cost of a battery type feeder because of the elimination of the need for replacing batteries but if you get too much over the price of a battery operated unit, I'm afraid you will price yourself out of the market.  That's just my opinion, but that is what you asked for so there it is.

  4. You have a great idea, but unfortunately, one has already hit the market and is creating quite a sensation. There are four of them so far on the lease this year, and more are being ordered-no noise to speak of, silent operation- batteries last almost forever, dumps 2 lbs of corn at a time. Almost no moving parts. Now I see your question was concerning batteries only, and I was talking about a new feeder on the market-sorry- Your battey idea is a good one, go for it, but bear in mind that with the new feeders being developed, batteries will no longer be a problem concerning feeding.Perhaps you could tie in your battery research with the new feeders, and have the best of both worlds. Good luck in your venture!

  5. Man a deer feeder is wrong in the first place you guys must really be pretty desperate to get a deer! Like I always say if it came right down to it you wouldn't survive!*
