Does a blower motor resistor able to be 'programmed'??

I have had my 2001 Pontiac Aztec in the shop because of the Security Alarm going off at random rimes, and AC stopped working. The garage wanted to replace the Blower Motor Resistor, but I had replaced it myself seems how I was saving around 70 bucks. Today, the garage asked me how I got the part, and that it 'might not be updated' because I didnt get it at a Dealer. Do they make updates to these Resistors? It seems my blower is working properly now at all 5 blower settings...

  1. It sounds like they're trying to hose you.  Good for you!  You fixed it yourself.  As long as the blower works on all the speeds, you did it correctly.

    Way to go!

  2. The resistor might have been replaced with a different part due to a recall. It's just a hunk of wire and ceramic, so it doesn't take a lot of programming.
