  1. It's quick to do and eficient. Ask Caesar, who crossed the river Rhine or Xerxes, who crossed the Hellespont. It has been done very often since their times.


  2. it's one way to do it but i cannot see how a floating bridge would be "superb" in any respect except war.  it's flexible, and a solid structure  would both allow more weight to be carried across it as well as be more easily driven upon.
