Do buyers in California pay commission to his/her Real Estate agent? or it is the seller's responsibility to pay buyer and seller's agent commission?

If so ,is that a law?

  1. In my state a buyers representation usually states the buyers agent will seek their percent from the seller's broker first if they are offering to pay for a buyer's representation.......They usually do, but, sometimes they may pay for example 2% of the buyer's agent instead of say, 3 or 4% in which the buyer would be responsible for the rest, if that is what the buyer and his agent agreed to when they signed the representation agreement.  I am in TX

  2. The seller pays the commission, which is set with their agent and split.  They are aware of the commission before hand, so if the seller is trying to short them they can simply not show that property.   There is lots of inventory out there.

  3. Generally, the seller pays the commission and the two agents split it,

  4. Generally not, but it depends on the language of the contracts involved. Most of the time, the buyer’s agent is paid a portion of the listing agent’s commission and that comes from the seller.

A buyer would never pay a listing agent’s commission, though.

  5. most states the seller pays realtors commission. The only exception is a sale by owner and you hire the agent as a buyers agent and the sales agreement does not state that the seller pays then it becomes your responsibility

  6. No law.  The buyer could hire and pay an agent.
