  1. It depends on the field you go into.  You will find horticulturists in:  amusement parks, sports stadiums (turf managers), orchards and vineyards (wine), designing and maintaining intricate landscapes.    

    Base Salaries: 25K/year

    Avg. Salaries: 40-60K/yr.

    Highly motivated, talented & credentialed:  100K/yr+


  2. That depends on how much money is "enough" money.  

    The primary instructor for the Master Gardener class that I took was taught by a horiculturist who got his Master's in Horiculture (BA in Botany).  He is now in charge of the county's orchards, making sure the trees are healthy, etc.  He also travels around the country checking other regions for diseases.  He seems very happy with his job.
