  1. No, cat D is normally a cosmetic damage job - you'll easily get insurance for it.

  2. Hi there

Some insurance companies won't insure a cat D always best to check with them as not declaring could void your policy.

    Personally from experience I wouldn't go anywhere near a cat d .

I unknowingly bought one as my first car, had a minor accident (went into the back of someone at 15mph) the car was an absolute mess and I had to scrap it , even the airbag went off which was a completely traumatising experience, my advice spend a little bit extra it is worth and stay away from anything with a history

  3. No harder to insure, but if you ever have to make a claim they won't pay out as much because the market value is lower as it is a cat d.

Also if you ever sell it you won't get as much for it.

  4. hi...it makes no differance to the insurance company....

i used to work for the insurace company and youde be amased as what passes for a CAT D....a simple dint in the wing can be classified as a CAT D....CAT C now that can be a lot more damage, even structural.......these cars are a cheep  buy and well worth the money...go for it.

  5. Nope insurance will be fine..!! But it will be very hard to sell on...!! I would not buy Cat C or D just because it's 5k cheaper than a clean one! It's just not worth it.

    Regards

  6. No problem insuring it.  As already said, Cat D is minor damage, often just cosmetic, and the insurers have written it off because bodywork repairs at full commercial rates often cost nearly as much as the car itself.  It'll forever have "damaged - repaired" on its record which will drop its resale value in the future.

I know someone who bought a Cat D write-off, written off simply because some kind scrote poured brake fluid all over it and it needed a complete (and costly) respray.  He's in that trade, did it himself, and now has a beautiful car for peanuts. He isn't worried about the record, he has all the proof for any prospective buyer in future.
