I'm concern about saving energy. My guess you would save more money on cooling if you have a 1 bedroom apartment instead of two/three.

  1. Yes u would but u could close the door .

  2. NO. The size of the unit being cooled is probably the primary factor in determining power usage. Also very important is insulation and leakage factors for walls, ceilings, and windows.

A well designed larger home can actually use less than a poor design in terms of heat losses thru walls, widows, etc.

  3. You would save more energy if your space is smaller.  But a big issue is the sizing of your AC unit.  If you only have a 1 bedroom apartment, you want to get an appropriate unit for that - not one that's meant to cool a 3 bedroom apartment!  Because your AC unit won't be able to tell.  When looking for an AC, definitely check the energy efficiency ratings (SEER and EER) and talk to someone about appropriate sizing.

Also, if you're looking to install, you might consider either a wall/windown mounted AC: http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/ca...

    Or a stand alone: http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/ca...

These units can be more efficient if you're only choosing to cool one part of your house/apartment.

  4. Your guess is right. The larger house/apartment requires a larger air conditioner to keep it at a comfortable temperature.
