Does a collection agency/law firm have to be in your state to sue you?

i have a charged off credit card at a collection agency/law firm that are threatening to file judgement. they are location in texas. im in california. is it legal for them to file against me?

  1. They are going to use a licensed California attorney and are going to file in a California court in the county where you reside.


  2. They would have to be licensed to collect/practice law in your state, or they would have to contract with someone who is.

  3. they can be out of state but the state of your residence's SOL applies.
