if i leave my computer on and solely the computer (monitor, printer, and speakers off) would it waste alot of energy or would it just be smarter to turn everything off.

  1. Yes, a computer left on will waste a lot of energy.  Desktop computers with an LCD monitor use about 200  ( give or take some ) watts while running.  Laptops use anywhere from 35 to 50 watts.

The best thing to do is just turn it off when you're not using it or put it in the standby mode.

  2. Anything left on, or plugged in for that matter, while not in use is a huge waste of energy.  Most everything in my house is plugged into power strips, so when I am not using them, I just turn the strip off.  Its nice too, because I don't have to unplug and re-plug a million little things, just push a button.  Less effort and energy saving.

  3. Also, everything is probably on a strip, just turn that off when you're not using it. It just one switch! As little as that seems, it will add up for yourself and for everyone.

  4. turn everything off.

it'll make your house cooler as well

and your ac doesn't work as hard

and your ac bill is ALSO cheaper

    it helps
