I had AVG loaded onto a Windows 2000 Pro computer and it SLOWED IT DOWN. I uninstalled AVG and it sped back up. Any ideas?

  1. One quick thing to look at:

How much memory do you have on that computer. (I also use AVG, and it barely uses any memory. )

Is is scanning your computer? When it scans, your computer may slow down.

  2. Yes, AVG is slowing you computer down. I would recommend not uninstalling. Get more RAM for your computer, that will help it speed up.

  3. Any program that is running will consume resources, and slow the computer down. So yes, any anti-virus is going to slow the computer down to some extent.

I'm assuming though, since this is a Win2k computer, that it's older. You might want to look into Avast!http://www.avast.com/

It's a little easier on resource usage that AVG, so you shouldn't see as much of a slowdown.

  4. The most porpular anti virus are the ones that slow down the computer the most...  But I would not recomment having a pc without an anti virus, or try using another operating system, UBUNTU is a great choise

  5. Of course. It has to examine down loads, e-mail, web browsing. But how much time and effort will you lose after getting a virus?

  6. All viruses and malwares can be removed to increase the speed and use a ram tweek tool from the following software to increase your computer speed.

  7. Avast is a good anti-virus

Avira is also a good anti-virus
