  1. Usually, no. A virus is a malicious piece of software and is intended either to corrupt data, capture date, or hijack your computer hardware for a purpose other that which you intended.

    That being said, it is possible for a virus to modify perform operations harmful to your computer's hardware. For example, constant rebooting or changing your monitor's display to a setting it cannot support can damage or destroy the hardware. A virus can , in some instances, also overwrite firmware (ROM) which would render a piece of hardware useless.
