  1. Officers do not have to use radar to issue citations.  The squad I drove did not even have radar installed in it.  The citation you received does not have to state how the speed was obtained, however the rest of the citation, the officer's and courts' copies, do have comments that state everything, direction of travel, weather conditions, what the officer observed, etc.

  2. On you cite, it will state what your speed was, or at least what he wrote you up for.  The actual speed will be on his notes, and he may bring it up in court, explaining that he clocked you at 57MPH, but only wrote you for 55MPH.

He does not to write the actual radar determined speed on the cite.

  3. The method used to measure your speed should be there someplace. The rules of evidence should require that.

  4. it should

  5. Was the officer wearing his hat?

  6. If you ask, they will usually show you the gun. However, it is not required that they do so. Officers can also give you a speeding ticket using their own judgement and not a radar unit. On the ticket, it would say posted speed limit and actual speed. Many times the officer will write down a speed less than your true actual to help you out.

  7. It is not a legal requirement to list the type of speed measurement on your copy of the ticket, but it would be in his report.
