Does a cop need to turn his lights on behind you to pull you over?

I was driving in a pack of three cars (including mine), not realizing how fast I was really going (10 over, dumb me). Unmarked car pulls up RIGHT behind me, passes me, gets behind the first car in the pack in the other lane, turns his lights on, and sticks his hand out the window pointing at the side of the road.

I figure that I'm in the clear since he did not turn his lights on behind me, but I saw that the third car in the pack (in the same lane as the cop and the front car, while I was in the other lane) also pulled over. Didn't occur to me until much later that I maybe should have pulled over too.

Now I'm scared that I'm in trouble and that the next time I'm pulled over I'll be arrested for fleeing. Everyone I talked to so far said I did nothing wrong, but I'm not so sure.

  1. Flee the state, they'll be looking for you...........JAIL TIME!!!

    LOL

  2. You did not get a ticket so I would not worry because if he wanted you he would have radio this in and you would have been caught by another police officer....

  3. you did nothing wrong if he want you to pull over he would have sindgel for you to do so

  4. Logically speaking, cop's signals can only be seen by people behind him. If you're in the next lane over, you have nothing to worry about unless he gets on the loundspeaker and goes "You in the blue car! Pull over!"

    Count yourself lucky. :)

  5. You didn't flee they would have gotten someone to pull u over if u had done something wrong.. Your safe.. No warrants :-)

  6. yes

  7. And how would they know you were fleeing?

I am not pulling over for a cop unless they are behind ME with flashing lights.
