Does a dad duck fertilize the eggs right when the mom lays them?

because there is a nest in my back yard and i wanted to know if the eggs where fertile because she will stop and i was wandering if that meant the dad duck was fertilizing them

  1. No, they are fertilized about a week before the mother lays the eggs.  When the male and female mate, he deposits sperm in her and this is how the eggs get fertilized...

    Eggs laid less than 5-7 days after copulation first occurs are more than likely infertile.

    Anything after that is hit or miss depending on how successful the mating was.

    The drake fertilizes the females "eggs to be" when they are still growing . . and then when she lays them they will be fertile if the drake was successful.

  4. No they're fertilized prior to the laying. Once when the area flooded a female mallard moved into our front yard and laid eggs. There was no male anywhere, considering I have no idea how far away water must be from here....

    All but one of the eggs hatched.

  5. ducks are like parrots . they cant have baby's with no male.but they can lay eggs without a male they will just never fertilize or hatch
