Does a fly go to sleep?

We all know humans and four legged creatures need sleep.But what about insects?

are awake respond to all pulses of sound; sleeping flies respond only

to the loud ones. Flies don't have rapid eye movement--or the "rapid

antennal move-ment" that observers have reported in bees."

yes they do sleep,   that is how one catches them  [i am insect and animal friendly so i catch them and let them go outside,  i do not like them in the house

i'm pretty sure they do.

i've been catching certain insects lately. and at certain times i'll grab the cup they're in and they'll just sit there. and i'll shake it around and they won't do anything. until i vigorously shake it only then do they start to twitch a bit and then they freak out and start moving around.
