  1. Yes, it should have a roll cage to protect from objects from above and also from capsizing.

  2. Overhead Guards

Overhead guards are required when trucks will be working with overhead loads or when working in an area where objects may fall from overhead areas.

The overhead guard must be constructed of sufficiently strong materials so that it will withstand the impact of any type of object that could be reasonably expected to pose a threat to the truck operator.

The overhead guard may be of solid sheet construction or it may be of open construction.

If it is of the open type, the openings must be small enough to block the smallest size material that is being worked with.

The overhead guard needs to be designed so that it extends beyond the operator's immediate position.........................

  3. If it lifts more than 1800mm, it is a legal requirement, it is there to protect the operator from falling loads and to retain the operator in the event of a rollover,. Just reread the question, if you mean a glass or polycarbonate screen to cover the top of the over head guard to stop rain etc, no it does not have to

  4. they do,  I owe my life  to the roof of a toyota reach truck it saved me from being pulverised by a 250kg crate falling from 9metres  needless to say the truck was a write off but i'm telling the story......  never driven one since though  i get cold sweats and everthing even being around warehouse racking above 2 metre

  5. Not only should they have a safety cage on top, they should have a type of cover so that smaller items cannot fall through the openings and bop you on yo' head.

Wearing a hard hat should be manditory on a fork lift if the operator is subject to items falling from above weither it's from what they are lifting or from others working above.

    Work Safe!

  6. Of course it does, for the simple fact that stuff can fall over and if you have a stack of grids it's not going to tickle if they fall on your head!!!

  7. I would think so , danger of falling objects from above

  8. normally all forklifts have a roof of some sort, for protection, if accidents happen but also from the elements

  9. no they don't have to to have a roof normally they have a form of deflector frame that forms an integral part of the roll frame

but of course nowadays there are many adaptions that can be fitted to a modern forklift that gives you a comfort zone

but if was in a dangerous condition the companies public liability insurance inspector would have condemned this truck

it should be examined on a six monthly cycle

    how do I know

I'm in that position to be aware of such circumstances and have to act upon them as they arise
