Does a garter snake bite hurt?

i got bit by what i thought was a garter snake, after reading people say that they are painless. the bite i got felt like a billy club hitting my ankle and now my whole leg is sore, any ideas?

garder snakes arnt black they are an olive green. so it could be something dangerous or not. go see a doctor. and to answer ur question, no they dont hurt, its just the bite then its done.

Can you describe what the snake looked like please? But I can already tell you, no matter what snake it is, if your bit if will hurt. People that say it won't are full of it. Also the soreness is normal, even though the snake it's self isn't poisioness your body is still reacting to the saliva in the snake's glands so its common if it swells or just feels painful.

Just a few more details, which direction did the lines run? And how large was this snake? Last, did it have a diamond shaped head, or a smaller one.

Okay, well I have another question lol. Do you live near a forest area, or open grassland? And if nither which is closest?

While non-poisonous, a garter snake will readily strike at you, and it can bite with teeth like pins. Although it is not poisonous, it can cause an infection if the bite of the teeth is not promptly treated with anti-biotic. So basically go get some anti-biotic and clean your bite out if you haven't already done so.

Minnesota has two species of garter snakes. The eastern garter snake is found mainly in and along the edges of forests. The plains garter snake inhabits open grasslands. If either one bit you, you should be fine. Just do what I said before, and clense your wound. If the pain doesn't go away in a few days, or if it starts to look infected go see a doctor.

Well if it was a garter snake, then they're not poisonous, but I don't know if it should be painful or not.  You should still really see a doctor though.

mabye it wuz a garter snake but your just a wimp?
