Does a guitar fit into the cabin of a international flight?

I'm gonna carry-on my guitar from Toronto to China by a AirCanada plane. First, im wondering if they allow me to carry on my guitar with my only backpack which can fit under seats. Then, if the first problem isn't a problem, does a common guitar case fit into overhead bin of that kind of big plane?

  1. Well, i think it might, depending on the size (acoustic or electric?) After that, the issue comes up is will there be space? you will obviously need a full bin, and with people taking everything they possibly can as carry on, I'm not sure you'll be able to get a full bin to yourself. I know that sometimes, if it wont fit, and the flight attendants are friendly, they will put it in the closet in the front of the plane.

  2. My brother had to buy a second seat for his guitar. He refused to check it to regular baggage and it is definitely too large for any storage in the plane. You ccould check with the airline you are flying with but unless you get a her case for the guitar and check it you probably cant carry it on.

  3. Here's Air Canada's policy on musical instruments, most guitars will fit into the overhead bins, but are usually larger than the allowable size for carry-on baggage. If Air Canada's policy is not to your liking, you might want to call them to see if you can make special arrangements, good luck:

  4. it depends what type of guitar you have because of the size of it...it might fit over head but you will deffinately want to have a hard case because someone might throw something up with your guitar and it might get scratched or broken and that would just suck...

  5. as an airline employee it would depend on the airline's policies. I would suggest a hard type case. If there is any damage they will not cover it under the contract of carriage if in a soft side case. It there is room in the closet they will put it there but don't count on it. The closet will be used by 1st and Business class and then economy if there is any space remaining. The other option is to gate check your guitar. Those items are handled seperate and depending on the aircraft have an area all to themself. Wheelchairs, strollers and other gate checks are usually the only items in there.

  6. i can't say coz i dosen't imagine your gutair size...................hahahahaha

  7. No, it most definetely will not. The bags have a size restriction, and it will surely be too long.

  8. no it will not fit over head, but you are allowed to carry on 1 bag and 1 personal item. in this case your guitar will be your personal item, once you have checked in and are about to board they will take your guitar and place it up front or in a special storage area under the plane once you arrive to your destination they will return it to you by the door of the plane. they do this with my daughters stroller and did the same when my sister in law had to bring her wedding dress from the states over seas.

  9. i don't think so

its big and now a lot of airlanes are only letting people carry on 1 bag and check on 1 bag, everything else is like 20-25 USD

i doubt a guiter will even fit in the overhead conpartments, even if it did it could get ruined by other people throwing their luggage up there. and most airlines require anything your keeps (bags, backpackes, etc) to fit under the seat.

in international planes, window seats have no leg room, this goes for seats next to the window seat. the aisle-way seating is a bit roomer but it still isn't enough room for a guitar

what i would do is put it in a hard duffle bag/ suit case and put it in the middle of all your clothes. that way its cushioned and a lot safer
