Does a horse can swim?

Well... I know that a horse can walk underwater while having their head out of the water but can they swim like a dog would do?

Oh Yea! I had the time of my life when I went swimming on a horse! They actually swam while I was on her!!!!!!!! It was so amazing!! Every year Virginia hosts an auction for Chingteauge Ponies (wild ponies on a island off the coast). They have to swim from one part of the island to virgina! You should look it up! Its really cool!

Yes, horses can swim....actually you are right on in suggesting that they swim like dogs because they do, very much so. I have owned horses for years, and have brought them to the water many, many times. Also i was in a pleasure horse club, and the pony club and learned in childhood that horses can swim. However, horses cannot swim for extended periods as they tire quickly.

My horse, for example, used to swim across this lake to escape xD so we finally had to put a fence at the end of the lake so you couldn't gt out.

These are a type of wild pony that are herded from a island every year so they don;t over populate, they have to swim across a bay as they are herded...EVERY YEAR :)

yes they can, you can even be on ahorse while it is swimming if it is correctly trained

actually, the ponies that live on assateague island near maryland are famous for swimming. the legend says that a spanish galleon shipwrecked, and the ponies swam to shore and live on the land there. they are completely wild and untamed, however every year the chincoteague island firemen (another island right near assateague) round up the ponies and swim them across the channel to have them auctioned in order to keep herd size down and raise money for the fire department.

They can swim very well. I love going down to the river and doing a bit of swimming with my mare. Plus how do you think the cowboys crossed all those deep rivers on cattle drives......there where no bridges. It's fun to ride into a rive and swim across it on your horse and back. The tough part is cleaning and treating your tack after so it does not dry rot.
