Does a key nessecarily have to be dichotomous?

  1. Dichotomous means two branches.  The vast major of keys are dichotomous (because they are easy to use).  For some organisms (like microscopic fungi) there are polychotomous keys with more than two branches  (several options at each step).  These are very difficult and confusing to use, but necessary!


  2. No. There are multi-access keys.
