Does a large metal star on a house signify anything?

Driving through the northeast on our vacation we noticed a number of houses with a large metal star attached to the house. Does this signify anything or is it simply decorative?

Those are very popular after showing up in stores last year. I am not aware that those medal stars mean anything other than being decorative. They are widely sold in Target, Home Depot, etc.

They are called barn stars.  They are simply decorative, and a little patriotic.

I have always seen the stars in Texas as a symbol for their state.
