Does a leak in your coolant system cause...?

I have a leak in my coolant system (or at least, I'm pretty sure it's a leak). But my reservoir has not gone down since I've added coolant into there... because of the leak, does this mean that there is no vacuum seal and so it cannot draw more coolant from the reservoir? Thanks in advance

  1. Your coolant pump is pulling in too much air to circulate the coolant.  You should get your radiator fixed immediately or else risk a blown head gasket (which is VERY pricey to repair).

  2. its a hole and the hole will fill first with air theirs no longer a heat vacuum - take off your cap to fill find leak and repair- temmostat most like

  3. your radiator cap is very important to the system working correctly. if it doesnt hold the correct presure the overflow system wont work also the coolant system cant work correctly cooling wise if the cap is bad. look at it like this if the cap isnt the problem you are only out a few dollars and if it is you saved at least 1 hundred bucks from a shop. of course there are other possible reasons but start simple and go from there.

  4. maybe the most important question is where is it leaking from, and yes if it leaks out that fast you won't get the pressure you need for your radiator cap to open which is about 15 psi for most cars.

  5. Flush the system and change the Coolant and also change the Radiator cap.

That should solve your problem.....if not you may have to have your radiator rodded out.

  6. A bad radiator cap can keep the radiator from drawing from the resevior.  If the leak is in the radiator and it's bad enough it won't draw either.  Do you see it leak out? when you fill it?  Sounds like you have a bad leak.  Most shops will give you a courtesy leak test.
