Question:

Does a magnet pick up gold? I lost a piece of jewelry in 6-8 feet of River water 1 month ago.

This is driving me nuts! I had a cross that hung around my neck that I took off before waverunning on July 4th. I know exactly where it went down, but didn't have time to look then. It's been driving me crazy since. My mother gave the cross to me about 11 years ago and is very sentimental to me. I have a large magnet, a pole for attachments to clean a pool (nets to attach, and sift the sediments or mud). But I've never tried to see if a magnet will attach to gold. The gold cross is in 6-8 feet of water right under a pier. I'm driving 2.5 hours for my quest today. Any suggestions? Nice responses only please! Thanks in advance!

  1. No, gold is not a magnetic metal, like iron is. The best thing to do is dive for it.

Good luck, I hope you find it.

  2. Only ferrous metals (metals that contain iron) would get picked up by a magnet. Gold does not contain any traces of iron, so... sorry mate.

  3. magnet only attracts iron.

contact your plumber, thay have underwater cameras and grappling devices that can reach down to your cross pendant... its just 8 feet, im sure they can deal with it.

  4. Im not sure about gold..

but im positive that magnet cant pick up silver..

    so idk if tht helped..

  5. no, to find your lost treasure, dive. Don't forget to use a powerfull flash light. the gold will reflect the light. or hire a metal detector.

  6. Magnets will not attract gold, but a metal detector can sense it. Metal detectors are not terribly expensive, but you'll need one that's waterproof, so that'll add to the cost.

  7. Sorry a magnet won't work. You will have a horrible time trying to locate it. To be honest  you will probably never find it. But I do wish you the best of luck. Just being truthful.

  8. sorry, but a magnet will not pick up gold.  something similar happened to me with my gold necklace, and i found out that my magnet could not pick up gold

  9. your answer is no.....

  10. No it wont sorry

  11. no gold will not get picked up by a magnet sorry take a flashlight and dive  for it hope u find it

  12. A magnet won't attract gold.  I think you'd probably need one of those metal detectors people use on the beach.  I'm not sure if they sell ones that work under water though.  Good luck.
