  1. A marine is a marine is a marine.

  2. Military Intelligence is a oxymoron.  There is no such thing.  If there was, then we would not be in the mess that we are in today.

  3. no combat. you'll sit on base and analyze intel reports and prepare briefings. it's possible that you may go on a convoy at some point that gets shot at or take a couple mortars on base but not likely. the only officers that really see combat are infantry platoon commanders.

if you really want to see combat go enlisted, even as an enlisted intel marine. there are alot of programs to get your commission as an enlisted marine later on if you decide that's what you want to do.

  4. Some do and some don't.  Some don't mean to but end up in it anyway as the rear echelon gets attacked.

  5. Every single soldier, marine, sailor and airman can end up in combat from cooks to computer programmers comes with the territory.....

  6. As an Marine Intelligence Officer, you will be required to learn the necessary skills as a rifleman just as every Marine, but you will not be in a team that will go out on cordon as the Infantry.  You will most likely be sitting behind the desk at a Headquarters in your Regiment Intel (R-2) [does this still exist?], Battalion/Company Intel (S-2) or Division Intel (G-2) shop whether garrisoned or in the field, just as your Intelligence Specialists (MOS 0231) would be doing, guaranteed!

You can't go through the dissemination of the intelligence cycle while you're in combat, it's impossible!  If you want to be involved with intelligence-gathering portion of the dissemintation, I suggest that you go try-out for the Reconnaissance Indoctrination, but as an Officer, still you will not be able to go out on the missions; only enlisted personnel in Recon has that luxury.

Enlisted Personnel Other than Grunts (POGs) do go to the School of Infantry but attend the Marine Combat Training (MCT) Course, the Infantry (grunts) MOS are conducted in a Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) for training.  Officers get their hands-on training at The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, regardless of MOS.  But there is a Infantry Course for Officers that are going to be in the Infantry.

  7. not a guarantee you will be a pog which means your combat training will be kept to boot camp and a week after boot (forgot what its called) and dont go to SOI

  8. You will be working in a Battalion HQ or higher, unless you are leading an MI platoon or company.  The vast majority of all MI officer will start off working in a battalion hq.  You will be working for the battalion commander updating is enemy force picture, maps, terrain information, and what ever other special project the battalion commander give you.  You will very rarely leave the hq to go forward. If the hq comes under attack, you will defend yourself.  As for leading troops into battle, not likely.

  9. If you want to go into combat, then go into the infantry. Its the best way to get there. Thats is, if you have the guts to lead marines.
